    players stood back a few yards from the “spud” and each person threw a flat stone or a flat ring of iron at it. The person whose stone fell nearest to the “spud” had five marks to his credit. If, however, one of his opponents hit his stone he had to go back to where he threw from and await his turn again. The game could be played to any agreed total and the person or the partners who reached that total first was (were) the winner(s).
