- One day there was a day’s hunting on the Laghey Bar mountains. A few men from Laghey Bar went out to hunt with greyhounds. They had a white greyhound and a black greyhound with them. They had hunted for some time but had risen no hares. They met a little bare footed boy on the mountains. It was very cold weather. They said they would buy him a pair of shoes if he would rise them a hare. He went into his own house and told his grandmother. She told him to go to the rushes at the back of the house and she would turn herself into an enchanted hare. He went and told the men that there was a hare in the rushes at the back of the house, so off they went to the rushes. Out jumped the hare and the white greyhound was running close to it. The young boy said to the hare “run run granny” or the dogs will catch you. The hare ran as fast she she could and she got into the house before the dogs had time to catch her. When the little boy came into the house his grandmother was sitting at the fire. The hunters bought the(continues on next page)
