    it. He made a hole in the roof and his mother could see the hole. She went out but she could see nobody and when she come in her son was lying on the floor. His mother asked him who made the hole and he said that it was he, looking for the calves.
    An old angry miser lived beside him and he had a lovely apple garden. One night the boy stole out and went into the orchard and climbed up a bush. He filled his pockets and threw the rest on the ground. The miser was taking his tea and he heard the apples falling and the leaves rattling. He ran out and saw the boy. He called to him to come down but the boy was afraid. The miser caught him by the legs.
