   It is said that when Our Lord was dying on the cross a robin was picking the thorns out of our Lord’s head and a drop of blood fell on the Robin’s breast and since that every robin has a red breast.

   The thrush is a brown bird. People say that the thrush is the best friend of the farmers. She eats most of the insects which infest the crops. This is a rhyme which will show you what is thought of the thrush. Don’t kill the thrush boys. Don’t rob its nest. For of all the Irish warbles, The brown bird is the best. The thrush builds its nest in a hedge. It lays four eggs. The Cuckoo comes to Ireland in April, and she leaves it in July. This is a rhyme to show her coming and going. The Cuckoo comes in April, She sings her song in May, She whistles her tune in the middle of June
