Were cutting out the track for the road, they got broad thick flags and coated the bottom with them. Next they put on bigger stones, and then gravel, and broken stones. The stones were drew in carts as far as they could, and as the road went on, the stones were brought nearer.
They used heavy iron picks and heavy iron spades made by the blacksmith in the forge.
