- In olden times there were very few shops in this district. The people used to buy their goods in the shop which was nearest them, of the few that were in it.
In days gone by money wasn't too plentiful. On that account people used to exchange goods for goods. The goods which they used to give in exchange were: Butter, eggs, oats, potatoes and carts of turf. They used also give the shopkeeper some work in exchange for goods.
Long ago the people considered that a bargain when made on a Sunday wouldn't stand.- Collector
