- When King Charles was a fugitive he and a couple of his flow followers came to mtcharles. On horse back. Their horses were very tired as they reached the town & going up the steep hill near it they dismounted to give them a rest. At the top of the hill one of his friends turned & said to him “Mount Charles” & so the town got its name.
