- One pleasant evening as pinks and daisies,
closed in their bosom a drop of dew.
The feathered warblers of every species,
Together, they chanted their notes so true.
As I stood wrapt in meditation,
It charmed my heart for to hear them sing.Silent orbs of night were rising,
And the air in consort did sweetly sing.
With joy transported each side I courted,
While gazing round with inspective eye.
Two youthful lovers in conversation,
Closely engaged I chanced to spy. This couple spoke with such force of reason,
There[?] sentiments they expressed so clear.
And for to listen to their conversation,
My inclination was to draw near.
He pressed her hand and he said "my darling,
Tell me the reason you have changed your mind,
Or have I loved you to be degraded,
Since youth and innocence were in their prime.
For I am Slighted and ill requited,
For all the favours I did bestow,
You'll surely tell me before I leave you,
Why you're inclined now to treat me so".(continues on next page)- Collector
