- Landing of Napper Tandy at Rutland Island.In September 1798 Napper Tandy landed at Rutland Island. Rutland Island at that time was a very important place, a great deal of money having been spent there by the Government in building large stores, and there was a Custom House and Post Office on the Island.
Some of the buildings lie the Custom House, the chimneys of which are still to be seen, are covered by the drifting sand.
