- There is an old tradition about salmon not crossing under the Abber Bridge near St Columb's Hill in Gartan.
One day Colmcille was on his way to Churchill to buy provisions and as he passed the Abber Bridge he saw two men fishing there. They had just caught two fine salmon. St Colmcille asked the men to give him one of the salmon. The men refused telling him to go and get one for himself. St Colmcille said that never again would a salmon come up under the bridge. Truely never has a salmon come up there since.- Informant
