- Long ago the Friars used to go around gathering butter instead of money. One day they came to the village of Breastagh. They left the firkin in one house until they returned because it was too heavy to carry from house to house. When they came back the butter was gone and an old dead woman was left in its place. When the Friar was going away he cursed Breastagh and said "Any person who lived in Breastagh and had a family would never be rich but any person who lived in Breastagh and had no family would be rich
