Godfrey O'Donnell
is a Local Hero of Letterkenny
because he went to do battle
on a stretcher. The battle was
held on the Port Bridge
situated on the outskirts of
Letterkenny. Godfrey O'Donnell
was the leader of the O'Donnels
of Tir Connaill. He died and was
buried in Conwal graveyard on
the outskirts of Letterkenny in
the year 1258.
There is another
local hero of Letterkenny whose
name was Wolfe Tone. Wolfe
Tone was an Irishman who
joined the French army. One
day as the French were doing
battle with the English on the
