- An herb called the "cuckoo potato" which grows between four and six inches high is found with a little white flower. It is only noticeable in some parts of this district and usually in sheltered places convenient to a hedge or along a dry ditch. This is noticed to carry a white froth known as the "Cuckoo Spittle" and is supposed to be a cure for cancer.A weed called the benweed grows in great profusion in the fields in this district.especially on land for grazing. It grows as high as three feet and has a yellow flower with a strong stem. This weed gives the farmer a great amount of trouble and spreads rapidly. It is seldom found to any extent on poor soil.
