- Saint Columcille is the saint that is traditionally connected with the district. Glenalla Church is called after him.Sain Coumcille’s lake is situated mid-way between Millford and Glenalla on the Garrigort road. There are plenty of trout in the lake, but there can only be three trout caught in it in the day and at three different times.It happened that one day that the saint was walking on the road and he saw a man fishing. He asked him how many trout he caught and he cursed and said, “I have only caught three and at three different times. Then the saint said, that there would only be three caught in the day ever after. He was born in Gartan about fifteen miles from here in the year 521.He was caught in a turf bank once and he said that his curse would be on any body that wouldn’t leave a step to get out of a turf bank.(continues on next page)
