- Local FairsThe local fairs in this district are held in Ramelton, Milford, Kerrykeel, Kilmacrenan, and Letterkenny. Most of the buyers buy their cattle in the towns, at the fairs, but sometimes they buy the animals along the roads, on their way to the fairs. Often cattle dealers go to the farmers' own houses, and buy them the(?) if they can agree as to the price.In these small town the fairs have been continued for many years. There are no fairs held in castles or for(?) now - a - days as there were in olden times.
Some of the local fairs have special marketing places in the main streets and others are held in the backstreets. When cattle are bought the sellers give the buyers money back, which for £10 or so, the seller gives back about five shillings luck - penny. If the price is higher the luck penny will be more; it may be as high as ten shillings. When two people are mak(?) a bargain they often strike hands to settle(continues on next page)- Collector
