- The first school in Milford dates back over a hundred years ago. The school was in the house now occupied by Dan Conaghan, butcher, Kilmacrennan Road, Milford.
This school was a mixed one, boys and catholics and protestants. The teacher a man named Lindsay lived in the house and the school was in the building attached to the house now converted into bedrooms. Lindsay retired in 1858 and was succeeded by named Knight. In 1862 the murdered Earl of Leitrim started a school for girls only in the house where James Cullen now lives and put a Mrs. Fennell from Co. Cavan in charge of it.
