- There are a great many travelling folk about this district. There used not to be so many on the road since the border started but they are on the road again. My mother told me of ones that stoped [sic] before the border came.She told me of a woman who was named “Cassie Brooks.” She used to stop two nights every time she came. She had a man with her sometimes. She had pieces of hard bread in her pocket to eat along the road. She was always on her bare feet and she always smoked a pipe.There was a man at our house last week selling a fiddle. I do not know his name. He always has a sally rod in his cap. He asked my mother for a penny and when she gave it to him, then he asked my father for horse hair. He stayed for two hours in our house before he left.There is a man comes round this district selling herring. He comes from Castlederg and his name is “Patrick Muldoon”. He has a truck on wheels attached to his bicycle. He has a barrel in the truck for the herring.About a week ago there was a man(continues on next page)
