    Once upon a time a man named John Doherty had a black-smith's shop, and he was very poor for he got no trade.
    Every morning when he came into the shop he found a sixpence and three pan-cakes lying on the anvil.
    He got this every morning until he told the neighbours about it, and after that he never got it any more.
    This man lives in Knock and he is a midding old man now.
