The foreign slate was admitted into this country and there was little or no demand for the Glentown slate hence the quarry had to close down about the year 1916. The quarries belonged to the Duke of Abercorn. A short time after the quarry was closed The Land Commission bought these lands and they were given to tenants. The owner of these lands was Mr. Roddy McMonagle. Holmes Brothers Drumoghill got the quarrying rights from Roddy on payment of thirty shillings a week.
About 1932 they were reopened on the reception of free grants of money from the Government and from that time there was from four(continues on next page)
