Our churn is a plunge churn. - Long ago there was nothing but thatched houses but the houses nowadays are nearly all slated. But not the custom has died down and a very few people can thatch at all.
The thatcher begins at the eave he needs to have oat straw and he straightens this out and puts it on in even bunches and secures it with scobes or briars.
In some places wire netting is used to keep the thatch down.
