The people of ancient times did not eat late at night. They went to bed early in preparation for early rising.
The people of early times were very healthy as they had meals only at regular times, and they ate very plain food.
Boxty bread was made and eaten as the chief bread. It was black when made, and was a mixture of potatoes and flour or meal. It was baked in a round tin, and there was a hole in the centre of it. When cooked it was "strung" up to the ceiling and left there until it hardened.
