- In olden times the people wore boots when they left school. They had to work for their boots. When people had a sore foot they depended on the wild herbs that grew on the side of the mountain. They had no doctors.There are two shoe-makers in the district. Bob Patterson, Carrigans and Henry Collons. They make shoes and mend shoes.
- The children go bare foot in Summer and sometimes all year. A man who wears size twelve of a boot or shoe will never die until he is 120 years of age. In olden times people wore clogs.
