    the blight very quickly that year because every other year the people would use the tops as bedding. But that year the tops were all burned away with the blight. On that account they saw it quickly and knew the failure was coming on.
    The potatoes all decayed in the ground long before the time for digging came. On that account none of them could be pitted. The people kept all the potatoes they had and riddled them for seed for the following season.
    The people had to sow so the potatoes broadcast like grain and on small ridges as they were too small to be set in drills separate.
