When the rods are boiled and the skin pealed off them, they are ready for making the basket, because they will not break. You can bend them in and out until the basket is made. You can also make baskets from hazel rods, which are very plentiful in this district.
The baskets which are made from hazel rods are stronger than those which are made from the sally rods.
Every man could not make baskets only some men made them. If the father of the house could make baskets, he taught the son and so the industry came down from generation to generation. A few men are still living who can make baskets.
Cranes are very much used in farm houses and are very handy where many pots are boiled. The blacksmith of the district made these from iron. They are fastened in one side of the fire-place and you can swing it out from the top of the fire.
If you want boil any other thing on the fire when the pot is on it, you can swing it out from the top of the fire until it is boiled. The cranes(continues on next page)- Collector
