My Grandmother used to tell us how they had to live in olden times.
There was no light, only what they made themselves out of Tallow. They had to kill a beast or cow and take the tallow and melt it. A wick was made out of cotton thread. The cotton threads were passed thro' the narrow opening at one end of the candle mould and secured there by means of a stick to which the thread was looped and fastened to a nail.
The threads were brought out at the wider end of the mould stretched taut and kept so by being fastened to a stick or nail passed horizontally acoss the end of the mould(continues on next page)- Collector
