In olden days ploughs of wood tipped with iron were used. None of these wooden ploughs are to be seen at the present day. - When the potatoes are about three weeks set they are saddle harrowed with two round shaper harrows. This is done to break the hard lumps of clay on top of the drills so that the clay is fine to let the potatoe buds through the dark soil.
