heard tell of coming ashore. When she is seen she is usually sitting on a rock singing or combing her beautiful hair. She uses no mirror as she can see herself in the water. There were some local families connected with mermaids in the past. When there was going to be a death in the family the mermaid came and cried outside the house. Fairies do the same thing in certain families but when they cry, they are known as the "banshee".
