- (continued from previous page)The prince of the Danes was promised in marriage a daughter of the king of Ulster at that time her name was Duibhlinn. She did not want to marry him for she herself had promised to marry Cathlan Maelfabhaill. She was forced to go to the castle along with the Danish prince but she left it in a short time going away secretly taking with her the prince's treasure chest. After many battles the castle again came into the hands of Maelfabhaill and little is known about it until 1608 when it was occupied by the last of the Irish Chieftains Sir Cahir O'Doherty. Sir Cahir himself lived at his castle in Burt but the army of the Governor of Derry pressed him so hard that he had to leave and go to Carraig. On the 18th of April 1608 Sir Cahir captured Derry and put Governor Sir George Pallut to death. On the 5th of July the same year Sir Cahir himself was killed at Doon Well rock Kilmacrenan and afterwards it appears nobody lived in the castle.
