it was about midnight and one of the men said to the boy, "you will go in first."
Then they got a rope and they put him down the chimney. When they got him down they walked away and he could not get out. He went down to the dresser and went under it. There he saw a cow's hide with big horns on it.
He put the cow's hide on himself and started walking about the kitchen making a noise. One of the servants heard him and came up but when she saw this thing she fainted. Then the man came up and he threw holy water on it.
He asked "In God's name who are you"? and the boy said "I am a spirit haunting this house but if you open the door and let me out I will not bother you anymore." So the man opened the door and he went out and took off the cow's hide and went home. He then learned an honest trade and never stole again.
