- There was a poor woman one time and she went to Portaronan to gather some whelks for her dinner. She came till a hole and she saw a shilling lying at the bottom of it, picking it up she went home and bought some meal for her dinner.
She went down the next day to and she walked on till she came to the hole that she found the shilling in. But when she came to it she saw a woman sitting on the edge of the hole said she to herself I will not get my shilling the day. So she spoke to the woman and the woman said don't you tell anyone about that shilling that you got and come down till this hole every day and you will find one lying in it so picking it up she went and bought some flour.
She came down every day for a week till one day her husband growing suspicious asked her where she was getting the money to buy the things: The woman would not tell him at first and he got cross because he thought she was stealing the money. So he told her she would have to him where she was getting it. So the poor woman told him and the next she went down there was no shilling for her or for ever after.- Collector
