- "Chonnaic mé an solus i lios Cillín 40 bliain ó shoin. Bhí mé féin agus mo Cómharsa ag tigheacht abhaile ó Bhaile'n Ródhba. Ní raibh aon faithchíos orm ná ar na fir eile. Chuaidh an solus isteach go Lios Cillín airí. Annsin d'eirigh solus eile thuas ag an abhainn i gCluain Gabhla. Tháinic an dá solais i g-coinnibh a chéile annsin. Fá cheann uaire d'imthigh na soilse. Bhí chuile duine amuigh an oidhche sin ag féachaint ar an solus ag dul isteach is amach. Níor ainne aon dochar do duine ar bith. Ní fhéacamuid an solus níos mó"
- Near Clonglowla is a place called Maiden Hill, where Horse Racing was held about 100 years ago. They were the principal Races in Connaught. Its size was about 300 acres.George Ruthledge (Landlord) owned it. He was a notorious gambler and when he had spent all his money he put up his entire farm as a stake. An Englishman won it. He sold it by Auction. Courtney Kenny bought it.A Racehorse named White Stockings is buried on top of the hill. He had won several races at various meetings and when he was too old to run the owner brought him for show. When this horse saw the others running he broke away, and killed himself.
