    and a Protestant Chapel. Later a wooden building were erected at the rere of Portrane House as more accomodation was needed. These are called "the Temporances". The grounds surrounding the hospital are very extensive and beautifully kept. They include a Sports field, huge garden and farmyard, with a large amount of pasturage. It is practically self supporting grows vegetables, crops, kills its own meat, while its milk from a special herd of cows is famous.
    About twelve years ago they purchased an additional farm from Mr McAllister at Ballamastone - between the New Road and the front Avenue Two years ago they bought more land from Mr Counihan at Turvey and started another farm there, where everything is most up-to-date and scientific.
    About three hundred attendants nurses and other workers are employed. Lots of local men have good positions there.
