- Long ago most of the houses were thatched in this district and the walls were made of mud, with hay and straw mixed through it. Some of the houses had only one room and the bed used to be in some corner of the house. Some of the fires were level on the floor and sticks and turf were usually burned. The floors were made of clay and half doors were used out-side full doors. The light used long ago was a candle. The nearest candle factory in the district is in East Road Dublin.
