- 1. It was the custom not to let any fire out of the house on the first of May.
2. No ashes should be let out on the first Monday of the New Year.
3. Not to let out any fire when a person would be churning.
4. When the children are stirring the pot hanger the old people stop them, as they say that they are washing the devil's shirt.
