- (continued from previous page)boys. They put on masks and then they get a wren and kill him. Then they go from house to house and they ask money to bury the wren and this is the rhyme they say.
The wren, the wren,
The king of all birds
St Stephen's day he got caught in the firs,
We chaced him up,
And chaced him down,
And one of our wren boys knocked him down,
From brush to brush,
And tree to tree,
One of our wren boys broke his knee,
We dipped his bill in a bottle of cheer,
To keep him here, in right good cheer,
Up with the kettle and down with pan,
Give us some money to bury the wren.- Collector
