    The grey dawn had crept o'er the stillness of morning.

    May God bless the cause of old Erin, for you now I am going to die.

    He thought of the love of his feeble old mother
    He thought of a Colleen ever dear to his his heart
    The tears of affection he scarcely could smother
    Not knowing how soon from them both he must part.
    He feared not to die though his poor heart was broken
    When he simply rembered those he loved well
    And the shamrock he pressed to his heart as a token
