In the townland of Colesgrove in the parish of Craughwell in the barony of Dunkellin there is a field called Paire an Cabair. In the year 1846 this field was ploughed and turnips were sown in it. The turnips grew in great abundance. People came from miles around to eat the turnips. people still point out sites of houses then occupied and now in ruin.
