- The local landlord was Robert Rockford Wade. He lived in Fairfield about twenty years ago. His son is living in Fairfield at the present day but he is not a landlord.Not like many landlords Mr. Wade was a kind landlord. He never evicted tenants from their holdings. He had a man named Story as a steward.Mr. Story was sent about to the tenants collecting money, which was called "tithes". The people willingly gave the money to the "tithe collector".
