- There were a lot of different kinds of bread used in the old days. They had oaten-meal bread which was said to be very healthy.On the 1st November, the people made 'colcannon' and had it for their supper that evening.It is made by boiling some potatoes in a pot. Then they bruised the potatoes. Then they put a ring in the middle of it, and the person that would get the ring when eating it, would be married first in the house, it is said.When people make a cake, they usually put a cross on it, because they believe it would not(continues on next page)
