- Long ago bread was made from meal which was got from wheat, oats and rye. These were grown by most farmers in the district. The people ground their own wheat into flour and the oats and rye into meal by means of a quern or grind stone.The different kinds of bread made in olden times in my district were oaten bread , potato cake, and rye bread.The oaten bread was made by putting the oat meal into the losset.
