- Long ago the Irish people used to keep a lot of customs on different feasts of the year. In some places the customs are still kept up but in other places they are dying out. On St. Brigid's day the old people weave crosses out of rushes and they put them up on the ceiling or in the outhouses and they leave them there until St. Brigid's Day the following year. The young people sometimes dress up in old rags and different coloured clothes and they go around the village gathering eggs, bread, milk, and sometimes butter. Sometimes when they go into the houses some of them take a chair or teapot(continues on next page)
