- There are several different customs connected with marriage in this part of the country. The usual times marriages are celebrated are Shrove and midsummer. Shrove Tuesday is the day on which the runaway marriage is generally celebrated. A runaway marriage is when a pair of lovers like to give people a pleasant surprise when the news is broadcast next day. The days that are considered lucky days for getting married are Wednesdays and Friday. Some people believe Shrove is the only time but for the past years there are more marriages celebrated in the months of June and September.
