- There is an old boreen not far from my house called the Callow Boreen, about a mile and a half in length, all twists and turns with a wooden bridge or rish crossing a stream at one end. There is a wood called Knock-an Vic Teera, the most lonesome looking place to be found with a high hill in the centre giving a grand view for miles around. At each end there is a low lonesome looking valley. Lights are often seen at dead of night in this wood and it is common knowledge that it is haunted by fairies. There is another road in this district called Boher-na-Sop where a murder was commited on Xmas Eve about sixty years ago. The victim was a one-handed man called Breheny whom the murderer Martin Mc" Hugo called a rogue. Breheny was preparing a slander action against Mc" Hugo who awaited in ambush for him when returning from a visit at a neighbour's. Mc" Hugo murdered him on the roadside.
