supposed to be guarded by a very large black cat, who is seen very often around the hill. Long ago a man tried to get this treasure, but on hearing the cats loud purring, which he knew was guarding the treasure he returned in fear. Many attempts have been made since to get the threasure but were all failures, and many of those people were never heard of again. Collected by Matilda Dolan, Kilcooley N.S. Loughrea. In olden times there was a large sum of gold hidden in Masonbrook. At that time the British soldiers were fighting at Marble hill. There was an officer sent to pay them who never reached them. Legend tells us that some where on the way between Masonbrook hill and
