The ghost said nothing but took the loaf of bread off the table and ran up the stairs with it.Next night the king gave Connor forty pounds, two loads of turf, two candles and two loaves. The ghost came down again and took a loaf under each arm and ran up the stairs again. Connor followed him with the tongs but before he was at the bottom of the stairs the ghost was at the top.Next night the king gave him three loads of turf, sixty pounds, three loaves and three candles.When Connor went to the castle he left two loaves on the table and sat on the other. The ghost came down the stairs as usual. "Good night Mr. Ghost", said Connor. "Good night Connor", said he ghost.
