- There is no forge in this district. The nearest one to here is one in Kilrickle owned by Dick Farrell. It is a big forge and it has a timber roof. It is built on the side of a road. There is one fireplace in it. When he is putting bands on wheels he has to put the fire outside.
About 80 years ago there was a forge in Kilmeen. It was built near the road where the Banes are living now. It was owned by a man named Mick Kelly. The forge was very small but the man used to do a lot of work, because there was no forge in Loughrea at that time. His son was a blacksmith after his death. The forge is knocked about 40 years now.- Collector
