- In 1779 a tower was built on Bunowen hill. The land-lord of the place wanted to built a house but the people would not let him. They said it would be dangerous to shipping on the coast. Geghan was a very cross and bad man. O'Connell called him the Connemara cur. The place can be seen yet where he was going to built the house. He built the house but it was thrown down.
