    with a small piece of meat and water. They used to keep the oaten cake stirred around about with a small potstick. They used to leave it simmering for an hour. Then they used to take it up and put a farrel in a plate with some meat. Then they used to take up the soup and drink it and they called it Brolan.
    Paddy oaten cake
    This is made from all oaten meal and it is made wet with water. It is baked standing before the fire. There was a mill not very far from my house, it was used for grinding corn and it was worked with a donkey. There is a 'quairn' in our land and it was used by my grandfather. The other one can (nerver) never be seen. Long ago the people used to grind the corn with two 'quairns', two wemon used to work those 'quairns' one on each side, one woan used to push the quairn one way and the other woman the opposite way and in that way they ground the corn. In olden times the people used to bake pancakes on cabbage leaves.
