Fair of Carney. The fair of Carney (26th May) is another important farmer's date. Carney is a little village near Sligo town where an important fair was held formerly. It is only a name now. Cows require hay up till the Fair of Carney. You would get as big a storm at the fair of Carney as you would in January. (old sayings)
Cuckoo Storm. It is said a storm always occurs after the cuckoo comes to tis county. It is known as the Cuckoo Storm.May day customs. On May eve mayflowers are pulled and sprinkled in the window sills. A person should not lend anything on May eve.(continues on next page)- Collector
