    poteen was (stood) sold with a licence. Mr. McGowan went into the shop and he asked the owner what would she give him if he shot the man on the roof. She promised him a pint but at the same time she thought that he would not succeed in doing so. He was successful and he earned his promised pint of poteen.
    According to tradition it is said that the McGowan's took possession of the unroofed walls and of the earth which is enclosed by them and no one other than those bearing the name of McGowan are buried there.
